Delayed repairs on tracks at West Portal station

The examiner reports that there are delays in replacing the track installed in the ’70’s in front of West Portal station. Until the track is replaced, trains will continue to run slower through the area and will create a loud “screeching noise” while moving over the old tracks. The old tracks are what residents in the are blame for in-part Muni’s poor service in that area.

Will free fares fix Muni?

One of the largest studies of the MTA in a generation is underway, according to SFgate. One of the items on the table is free fares, inspired by ridership surges during the Spare the Air days during the last few months. “I’m interested in exploring it,” Supervisor Bevan Dufty told The Chronicle on Thursday. One quarter of Muni’s revenue is from rider fares.
